Oct 15, 2015 at 0:03 | comment | added | Rand al'Thor♦ | @JoshCaswell I've had a look and couldn't find any higher-res version, sorry.
Oct 14, 2015 at 23:34 | comment | added | Mark | @JoshCaswell, as best I can tell, the map doesn't correspond to any real place. The river valleys in the Sierra Nevada are almost invariably east-west rather than the predominantly north-south routes shown in the map.
Oct 14, 2015 at 21:13 | comment | added | jscs | Any chance of a higher-res version of this image? I think I can just make out the name of the settlement to the south-east of Hill Valley -- "Haysville" -- but the rest is not legible enough to allow me to program my car's GPS.
Oct 14, 2015 at 14:20 | comment | added | Random832 | @randal'thor After doing some more research, it turns out the answer to my question is the 25th, which is the earliest in the month it could be under the old rules.
Oct 14, 2015 at 14:12 | comment | added | Random832 | I have a question - when would Daylight Saving Time have ended in 2015 under the rules in effect in 1989? We can't assume that the alternate timeline of BTTF changed the rules in the same way in 2007.

Oct 14, 2015 at 12:31 | comment | added | Joe L. | California allows out-of-state car registration in some cases with some restrictions.
Oct 14, 2015 at 12:24 | comment | added | Joe L. | @rand al'thor: Laws vary from state to state, but in general it's illegal to register a car in a different state than your residence. Car taxes and titling fees are a significant part of a state's income.
Oct 14, 2015 at 12:22 | comment | added | Tobia Tesan | @randal'thor: Nice answer indeed. But where does the image you posted come from? Is this cropped from a particular frame?
Oct 14, 2015 at 11:28 | comment | added | Royal Canadian Bandit | @randal'thor: In principle, it would be possible for Doc to register the DeLorean in a state other than his usual residence -- when he bought it in 1985, and again when he re-registered it in the BTTF version of 2015. So it's not absolute proof Doc lives in California, but it's pretty strong circumstantial evidence. (Also, IIRC there are other California license plates visible in the first two films. There might even be a California flag visible at some point, eg. in or near the high school or town hall, but I'm not sure of that.)

Oct 14, 2015 at 11:06 | comment | added | Rand al'Thor♦ | @RoyalCanadianBandit How solid is that evidence? Could the car have originated in California even if Hill Valley wasn't in California? (I'm not familiar with US vehicle registration laws.)
Oct 14, 2015 at 11:02 | comment | added | Royal Canadian Bandit | +1. Also, the DeLorean has California license plates (in both 1985 and 2015 versions).
