Jun 4, 2016 at 1:05 comment added K. Alan Bates During the flashback scene that happens when Rey touches the lightsaber (the portion when Kylo Ren is killing Padawans in the rain) Yoda and Obi Wan speak. My guess is that their Force Ghosts were involved with the Academy. Rey had this vision because she was at the Academy. You can only really pick them out of the noise if you turn on the subtitles.
Jan 27, 2016 at 5:12 comment added ruakh @ThePopMachine: The answer addresses that.
Jan 11, 2016 at 16:35 comment added Raphael This would explain why she has all this "intuitive" knowledge about technology she has no right to have, plus piloting skills. Handling junk does not tell you how a spaceship works in its entirety.
Dec 22, 2015 at 19:16 comment added ThePopMachine Why do people think this theory makes sense? Obviously Rey doesn't know she is Force sensitive because she herself is surprised when she is able to influence the guard to set her free. She "can't explain it". So she can't have been trained as a child or she would know about her Force sensitivity, ...unless someone did a Jedi mind wipe or something. More likely she wasn't trained and was hidden/exiled on Jakku for some reason.

Dec 21, 2015 at 13:28 comment added Cameron MacFarland Also the R2-D2 waking up because of Rey's presence isn't true, unfortunately. scifi.stackexchange.com/a/111404/22392
Dec 21, 2015 at 13:11 comment added Cameron MacFarland @Josh How do you know it wasn't present when Rey was left on Jakku? As for that last bit, I guess I'll have to go watch the film again. sigh ;)
Dec 21, 2015 at 12:42 comment added Josh @CameronMacFarland, this idea ignores everything else Rey saw and heard. Though the saber was present for much of the past and future flashes, it wasn't present when she was being left on Jakku. And let's not forget the last thing she hears when she touches it.
Dec 21, 2015 at 6:50 comment added Cameron MacFarland The saber originally belonged to Anakin, and the sounds Rey hears at first are 1) Anakin killing all the padwans 2) Luke's yell of pain when his hand is cut off. To me this suggests the lightsaber was simply emanating energy from it's past, and Rey picked up on that.
Dec 19, 2015 at 22:12 comment added Mark This answer works well without any speculation at all. There is no evidence she has not ever been trained in the film.
Dec 19, 2015 at 7:48 comment added canon This answer is very appealing...
Dec 19, 2015 at 3:27 comment added Remy Lebeau @loneboat: "Leia has three known children" - that was part of Lucas/Legends canon, not Disney canon. At this point, Kylo (aka Ben Solo) is Leia's only known child.
Dec 18, 2015 at 22:43 comment added Thomas @Dungarth neither the saber nor rey were anywhere near him....and he has no super sensors.
Dec 18, 2015 at 19:40 comment added Josh @vynsane: That's a very good point I hadn't considered. Then again, that could have been his plan when he told Snoke he could get the information from her with more time. This is just the excuse I [didn't] need to rewatch the movie.
Dec 18, 2015 at 19:38 comment added Josh @loneboat: I think the wikia article is based off of the EU (now Legends), most of which is no longer cannon. The Reddit discussion is based on the trailers.
Dec 18, 2015 at 19:37 comment added Josh @Dungarth: Possibly, but I think Rey is MUCH more likely.
Dec 18, 2015 at 19:32 comment added loneboat @Josh: Good points. I had chalked that up to Leia not KNOWING where her daughter was, but I guess I could be totally wrong about that. According to this link, Leia has three known children: starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Leia_Organa_Solo . I found a good reddit discussion on it here: reddit.com/r/StarWarsLeaks/comments/3q3r6s/…
Dec 18, 2015 at 19:20 comment added vynsane Kylo Ren would know, and would have used that information to his advantage, were that the case.
Dec 18, 2015 at 19:12 comment added Dungarth Also, R2 could've reactivated due to the presence of Luke's saber, and not because of Rey.
Dec 18, 2015 at 17:46 comment added Josh @loneboat, if she was his nephew, why wouldn't Leia say anything? Her desire to get her son back sends Han to his death, but she's okay letting things just play out with her daughter? What made you think Luke was ruled out?
Dec 18, 2015 at 17:37 comment added loneboat Ummm, maybe I totally missed something, but from what I understood Luke is NOT her father. There's implication that he may be her UNCLE, but not her father. Do tell me if I'm wrong though, I'm interested to know.
