Nov 16, 2017 at 23:28 comment added CJ Dennis As a counterexample, in The Five Doctors, the First Doctor works out the solution while the other Doctors are still baffled. After the story is resolved, he has to explain it to them, so at that point in time, they don't remember being the First Doctor working it all out. I think it's a kind of "extra time", so they all get the memories of the same event at the same time and (generally) can't remember what they did in that situation as their former selves, until those new memories make their way through time and catch up with the next Doctor.

Apr 13, 2016 at 2:03 comment added tilley31 Plot points in Doctor Who are not just spelled out for you. You should make your own interpretations, and conclusions. The way I interpret it, is that those memories while locked inside his brain, can comeback when they're needed. 11 remembered the time rip because he had already seen it when he was 10. But the details escaped him at the time. Sorry, it's the best I can do for you.

Apr 13, 2016 at 1:59 comment added tilley31 I don't know. A random thing. The 11th Doctor said it himself when he saw the time rip..."I remember this...**almost remember**"
Apr 13, 2016 at 1:55 comment added Andrew Casali what do you mean by the events of the 50th are "locked in" the past incarnation's memories, and when they happen again, out of synch, so to say, something triggers those memories coming back. whats the thing that triggers the memories to comeback
Feb 23, 2016 at 2:31 comment added tilley31 I don't know about precedent. Down here it's tough to find Classic Who episodes, so TC and DotD are the only "multiple Doctors" stories I've seen. It's the best I can do.
Feb 22, 2016 at 19:49 comment added Rand al'Thor But is there any other precedent for a later Doctor remembering what happened when he was an earlier Doctor and they were actually together? In DotD it looks like Eleven remembers what he saw as Ten just before Eleven showing up, but nothing of what happened when they were together - whereas in TC Ten remembers what he (as Five) saw himself doing.
Feb 22, 2016 at 16:11 comment added tilley31 Exactly. The memories are triggered only when they're necessary, to keep the time loop stable. Doctor 10 only remembered in Time Crash, when he really had to...if it makes sense...
Feb 21, 2016 at 23:23 comment added Rand al'Thor The way I interpreted those bits you quote is that all but the most recent will forget events starting from as soon as two (or more) Doctors are together. That would explain why Eleven remembered the fissure and the fez and surmised that "this is where I come in", but didn't remember anything of what happened afterwards.
