Jun 3, 2019 at 12:05 comment added Mithoron I'm not exactly getting the point here. Old weapons were quite "empowered". For eg. single strike of knife from Barrow-downs broke Witch-kings protection from weapons.
Jun 23, 2018 at 14:03 comment added Pryftan @PaulD.Waite Or more correctly the Battle of the Hornburg. Sorry I’m just in a pedantic mood (well I almost always am but usually I don't even bother here). Don't recall that quote but it could be just the way you word it...Doesn't mean that it's not there of course but ...
Jun 23, 2018 at 14:01 comment added Pryftan Nitpick: It's not a trilogy. But if you consider the time of his world.. it's of course reasonable to expect older weapons. He does however state in a letter that now (the year he wrote it and I can't recall off hand) we are in a much older Age; seventh or eighth? Something like that.

Jun 10, 2012 at 15:13 comment added user6768 You should also note, that Tolkien's books predate most fantasy novels. D&D and other games and settings did not exist, they came about in part due to Tolkien's work. Sauron was "born" in the First Age, and his power is much greater than that of the weapons and items that came afterwards.
