They went over to Voldemort's side because he promised to provide them with a fresh supply of victims—something that requires intelligence to understand. They also are capable of reasoning that a human is "losing their mind". I do find such responses revealing, though, because it shows how difficult it is for us humans to understand truly alien intelligences as such. Also, have you ever tried telling a dog to go to some specific alley that it has never seen before? I would not think you would have much luck. | |

You have a prison full of the worst criminals in the wizarding world, and you choose to guard it with beings that can't (or won't) distinguish between their inmates and innocent bystanders, and whose loyalty can be easily bought by said inmates and turned against you? Surely there must be a better way... | |
