Before their second game in PoA he says: "You know what we've got to do," said Wood as they prepared to leave the locker rooms. "If we lose this match, we're out of the running. just -- just fly like you did in practice yesterday, and we'll be okay!". In a 4 team group you don't have chance to win if you lose two matches if wins come first. On the other side if points come first then you can do it with just one win with a tremendous result (like 5000 : 0) | |

Out-of-universe, I suspect it's only to break ties; that's how most sports work these days | |
