So there are two possibilities: either the depiction of ghosts in the books is not complete, or the 'haunted' implies presence of something other than a ghost
Jun 2, 2017 at 8:08 | comment | added | BolteAltamont | To be fair, there's no evidence to suggest that dangerous ghosts exist in the real world, either, yet haunted houses still scare people. Wizards can have irrational fears just like we do.

Jun 1, 2017 at 20:58 | comment | added | zzzzBov | @Michael my argument isn't that the faculty is perfect, it's just that dangers that exist outside the school aren't represented from Harry Potter's perspective inside Hogwarts.
Jun 1, 2017 at 20:09 | comment | added | user11521 | @zzzzBov You would think so, but still there a example of other dangerous things like the Forbidden Forest, the out of bounds area in the first book, and the Chamber of Secrets which the faculty, for one reason or another, were not able to fully secure the school against.
Jun 1, 2017 at 19:49 | comment | added | zzzzBov | Consider that at a school like Hogwarts any ghosts that would otherwise be harmful to students would have been removed by the faculty.
