Mar 4, 2014 at 0:06 comment added xXGrizZ I believe it's implied that the portraits have all their memories as Snape and Dumbledore explicitly strategize a few times that we are told about and presumably constantly. Also, I agree that their basically would have been no book if the trio had access to the portrait and Rowling was right treat it how she did.
