Nov 15, 2017 at 20:21 comment added Quasi_Stomach Gandalf does mention that his knowledge (and that of the Wise) went as far as the loss of the ring by Isildur in the Gladden. That implies that they all spoke of it, and knew what happened to it. I can't find evidence that Gandalf specifically knew that Elrond was there, but since Elrond mentioned his counsel (of Isildur) to the council (of Elrond), it is indeed hard to believe that Gandalf didn't know all along.
