Feb 20, 2018 at 18:38 comment added Mr Lister I wanted to post this, but I decided against it because there was already an answer about a gay couple. Oh well.
Feb 19, 2018 at 20:40 comment added JRE Can't believe I forgot that. Seems like the greater thoughts in that book were more important than the sexual orientation of the characters.
Feb 19, 2018 at 18:51 comment added Steve @JanusBahsJacquet, fair point. It's also 24 years after en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Price_of_Salt (which sold over 1M copies). But it was still well before the time when same-sex relations were clearly accepted as something that should be legal, let alone accepted. Anyway, my main point is that it's the earliest example offered in Clarke's fiction.
Feb 19, 2018 at 18:02 comment added Janus Bahs Jacquet It’s not all that early, really. For instance, it’s two years after The Front Runner, which was a NYT Best Seller, came out (no pun intended).
Feb 19, 2018 at 17:43 comment added Steve Accepted because although both answers are correct, this is the earliest example offered – and surprisingly early for LGBT characters to appear as protagonists.
