Aug 22, 2018 at 5:25 comment added David Roberts @Martha but Quenya was forbidden by Thingol in Beleriand. Inside Gondolin, from whence no one (almost) went in or out, Turgon was king and could make his own rules and call the place whatever he wanted. Was he still bowing to Thingol's will when it had no force?
Aug 22, 2018 at 5:25 comment added Edlothiad Ok I'll get to work on an answer. @Martha Quenya was forbidden in Doriath were Thingol was king. This question is asking about Gondolin/Ondolinde were Turgon is King. Turgon's "native" language was Quenya. Turgon wouldn't be limited under the rules of Thingol.
Aug 22, 2018 at 5:23 comment added David Roberts @Edlothiad yes, it would!
Aug 22, 2018 at 5:21 comment added Martha I don't understand this question. Ondolinde is a Quenya word; Quenya was forbidden; ergo, Ondolinde was forbidden. QED.
Aug 22, 2018 at 5:20 comment added Edlothiad Would an answer using primarily sources from the History of Middle-earth be acceptable? Unfortunately, I think it's the only way I can think of answering this question.
