Aug 3, 2022 at 22:58 | comment | added | Alexander The 1st | @Salmononius2: As I understand, the thing about letting Loki take the Mind Stone Staff to get the Tesseract from Earth and conquer Earth is that, it does give him plausible deniability - since the Mind Stone had the dangerous A.I. code in it that if Loki failed, someone on Earth might use to get him another agent down there. After Age of Ultron ends, that agent has now failed, so he no longer has an agent to look for those two stones, and the Time Stone. Let alone Soul, after he lost that lead during his Power Stone agents also failed.

May 2, 2019 at 1:54 | comment | added | Salmononius2 | I hate to be that guy, but (at least based on when the movies were released) in the end credit scene of Age of Ultron, Thanos says "Fine, I'll do it myself", implying that he is going to start collecting the stones in person now, but it isn't until sometime after Guardians 2 (released 2 years later) that Nebula gives away that Gamora knows where the Soul Stone is. Do they address that discrepancy (assuming that the chronological release date for the movies was also when the events happened in-universe)?

Sep 6, 2018 at 17:51 | comment | added | Valorum | @user931 - Given that the Time Stone is somewhere on Earth, conquering the planet probably seems like quite a good idea. Also, Thanos' plan was almost certainly to halve the population.

@Odin1806 I asked that in context of last sentences of the answer. he knows that the minute he does, the forces of the universe are gonna line up against him. If he doesn't know where the Soul Stone is, then what's the point?

Sep 6, 2018 at 15:22 | comment | added | Remy Lebeau | @Odin1806 except that Thanos already had the Mind Stone. He gave it to Loki when he handed over the scepter. This has been acknowledged by the "Infinity War" writers.
Sep 6, 2018 at 15:02 | comment | added | Odin1806 | @user931 - (IMO) Thanos knew at least the tesseract was on Earth, maybe even the time stone. Whether he knew or not that the scepter had the mind stone in it (I can't remember if he knew for sure) Loki promised Thanos that Earth was an easy target and Thanos was gambling on him to retrieve the tesseract for him. Thanos at that point was still trying to remain kind of in the shadows regarding the stones and satisfied slowly conquering one planet at a time. And learning where the stones all where and having someone else find and get them to him gives him plausible deniablility if he needs it...
Sep 6, 2018 at 2:26 | comment | added | Xantec | If the Tesseract could be opened from either end, as we saw Loki do, then it was arguably the easiest stone to find.

If he doesn't know where the Soul Stone is, then what's the point? ~> What was then point of sending Loki and Chitauri army to Earth?
