It even says so on the AWOIAF Bastard children of two people of the smallfolk are not given a distinctive surname. Since bastards are non-nobles, they are considered smallfolk. If they are knighted they can choose their own surnames like Deamon Blackfyre did, and then his kids will have that name. | |
