It also kind of makes sense that they'd need the stones in order to attempt making something that could somewhat contain their power — they don't have Eitri helping them, and while Tony and Bruce studied the Mind Stone a fair bit in Ultron, they clearly didn't really know what they were doing with it at that point.
Oct 20, 2021 at 14:55 | comment | added | LogicDictates | I've been rewatching some of the relevant scenes in Endgame, and while the gauntlet doesn't seem to be shown on-screen until after all the stones have been obtained, I don't see any confirmation of when it was designed or made. We know they made other things before the trips, such as the time travel suits and the platform they travelled to and from. Do we have actual confirmation that they didn't design or make the gauntlet before the trips as well, or is that just an assumption?

Waite | @OKprogrammer: presumably — I don't remember any detailed discussion of the gauntlet in the movie, and ultimately Tony manages to wield the stones without even using that particular gauntlet (though once nanobots are involved, it's unclear where one gauntlet ends and another begins). We do see Rocket, Tony and Bruce standing around a glass as Tony tentatively inserts the last Infinity Stone into the gauntlet, so presumably the three finest remaining science minds Did Some Science on the stones to work out how to make the gauntlet, and even avoided making Ultron this time.

Oct 20, 2021 at 10:12 | comment | added | Paul D. Waite | And to be honest, the idea of Infinity Stones being different in different universes doesn’t make a whole heap of sense in itself. Agent Carter decides to stay in the room, or Yondu decides to delegate a kidnapping, and suddenly their universes each have slightly different Infinity Stones? Uh, okay?
Oct 20, 2021 at 10:09 | comment | added | Paul D. Waite | @TheLethalCarrot “We can argue the semantics between universe and timeline all day long” — we’ve never done that. Not once! Certainly not twice!
Oct 20, 2021 at 9:08 | comment | added | TheLethalCarrot♦ | This is the only answer that really makes sense. We can argue the semantics between universe and timeline all day long but in this case that's irrelevant anyway. +1
