Steampunk is many things, but my favorite way to understand it is this; Steampunk is the expression of the sort of culture that might have arisen had H.G.Wells 'The War of The Worlds' actually happened, and the subsequent integration of Martian technology in the Victorian era....at least that is how I describe it to any friends who ask me....I could be totally wrong :)
