First, because a strong character moment is taken away from Frodo for no good reason; second, because it turns Arwen from a dignified and mysterious character into Hollywood Action Girl Template #4. Given these fundamental misunderstandings (or conscious perversions) of the book, I submit that the only sensible answer to OP's question is "because Peter Jackson hates us all personally." | |
