Supposedly Superman gets his powers from absorbing sunlight. I've redread that plants on planets withwith dim red dwarf suns would likely appear black to our eyes, absorbing across the entire visible wavelength range in order to use as much of the available light as possible. Krypton had a red sun, so if Kryptonians evolved a photosynthetic ability, shouldn't Superman's skin be black?
