It has been several years since II've read it, but I think it was in Star Wars: The Anotated ScreenplaysStar Wars: The Anotated Screenplays...

...that Ivan Kirshner indicated that he regretted that he did not properly convey the passage of time. If I remember correctly, Luke's training and the Falcon's travel was supposesupposed to take 6 months.
