Dec 26, 2017 at 17:03 comment added bgvaughan But that's totally at odds with the earlier scene in which Cobb tells Mal that she's not real, that she lacks the real Mal's "perfections and imperfections", that she's just a shade. I.e., there's a meaningful and perceptible difference between reality and dream, and the temptation only exists because there's no longer a real, living Mal. Cobb would not accept the shades of his children in preference to his real children.
