I have some problems with the movie where I needed to find explanations.

We know that

Morbius has not only increased his intelligence by playing with the Krell technology, but without realizing it allowed his subconscious id the access to a matter projecting machine with nearly unlimited power. This creates a monster, the "Monster from the ID". This has killed every other surviving member stranded on the planet on arrival because Morbius ego did not want that they bring back knowledge.

If we ignore the need to build up tension, why does the monster

first sabotages the ship and then on the 2nd visit kills Chief Engineer Quinn instead of annihilating the whole spaceship ?

The only reason I see is that Morbius ego wanted that other people share what he found out about the Krell and therefore subconsciously did not want that the ship leave again.

melts through an almost indestructible door. It is never explained how does it manage it. Is the thing not only a projection but have something like an independent mind and is therefore able to use the machine to project a heat ray against the door ?!

And the last: Wikipedia states: "He then confronts the creature but this act triggers a backlash in the Great Machine which mortally injures him."

Sorry, but what I see is

that the thing actually murders Morbius. The terrified faces of both the Commander and the daughter of Morbius tell me that Morbius is assaulted badly. Because the monster is driven by bad emotions it ignores that killing Morbius will destroy itself.
