We know that

Morbius has not only increased his intelligence by playing with the Krell technology, but without realizing it allowed his subconscious id the access to a matter projecting machine with nearly unlimited power. This creates a monster, the "Monster from the ID". This has killed every other surviving member stranded on the planet on arrival because Morbius ego did not want that they bring back knowledge.

In the final the monster

melts through an almost indestructible door with a combination lock, the commander jumbled the combination to prevent access by the id. It is never explained how it is capable to use heat, in the former appearances it is simply an extremely ugly blob with claws. Is the thing not only a projection but have something like an independent mind (Morbius calls it the "evil self") and is therefore able to use the machine to project a heat ray against the door ?! Or does Morbius project heat subconsciously against the door ?
