May 14, 2015 at 15:40 | comment | added | ThePopMachine | @JMFB: It's an alien and it's a TV show. It doesn't need more explanation than that. There are other aliens that are resistant to phaser fire.
May 14, 2015 at 15:10 | comment | added | JMFB | @ThePopMachine but that confuses me more? Remmick's more resistant? I know Crusher says this in the episode. Does Remmick have some kind of electrical field around him? He's simply organic matter with a bug in him. Most organic life forms are going to have the same basic organic materials. They are going to have some kind of skin, organs, bones, etc. Most of the time they are the same materials, which is why Crusher and even Bones sometimes is able to treat and diagnose issues with new species relatively quickly. Why would there be a differentiation?

When they kill Remmick at the end, both Picard and Riker are firing on kill for a sustained period. First he's stunned, then his head explodes, then they vaporize the alien creature in his chest. Clear this is much more resilient than other cases of phaser fire.

May 14, 2015 at 6:43 | comment | added | JMFB | @MajorStackings I just read it. That dealt with multiple settings, etc. Some tried to give an explanation, but assumed that it always vaporized people on the highest setting. In my question I am concerned with only the highest setting and gave examples of when sometimes it vaporized and sometimes did not. But I appreciate the link and information.
