Jan 22, 2018 at 18:07 comment added Matt Gutting It could also take place if Aragorn is taken to Narnia.
Jun 25, 2017 at 11:17 comment added Rand al'Thor @WOPR I think it does. If he participated in any battles during that, then he wouldn't yet have reached the stage of sheathing his sword semi-permanently. If there were some he didn't participate in, then they'd count in the same category as the Battle of Bywater.
Jun 25, 2017 at 2:42 comment added WOPR @Randal'Thor Your amended answer also doesn't take account of the various police actions Gondor and its allies conducted after the War of the Ring in the Harad and other areas east of Anduin.

May 28, 2015 at 1:45 comment added Wad Cheber @randal'thor - I just checked Tolkien Gateway - the he Battle of Bywater/Scouring of the Shire was the final battle of the War of the Ring.
May 27, 2015 at 21:50 comment added Wad Cheber @randal'thor Since this is my question, I hereby declare that you can add the proviso (that Aragorn reserves the right to use other swords at any time should the need arise) without altering the title you created in your edit, considering the fact that there is no conceivable way to add the word "pedant" without rendering said title unintelligible.
May 27, 2015 at 20:59 comment added Rand al'Thor @WadCheber I saw the Scouring of the Shire as a sort of mini-war of its own, after the main war was done. It's arguable, I suppose. Also I'm running out of places to insert the word "pedant" if I edit that quote another time!
May 27, 2015 at 19:55 comment added Wad Cheber @randal'thor - see my previous comment to Royal Canadian Bandit. Also, wasn't the Scouring of the Shire a battle in the same war? If so, Aragorn should specify that he is referring only to battles in which he himself will fight.
May 27, 2015 at 19:37 comment added Wad Cheber @RoyalCanadianBandit - In the spirit of pedantry, Anduril can be permanently sheathed, as long as he has another sword available to use in its stead.

May 27, 2015 at 19:27 comment added Rand al'Thor @RoyalCanadianBandit OK, so "last" is also used figuratively. I'll edit!
May 27, 2015 at 19:24 comment added Royal Canadian Bandit @randal'thor If we're going to get mathematical, your rephrasing may be a tautology. By definition, the sword can be sheathed permanently if and only if there are no more battles, ie. the last battle has been fought. ;-)
May 27, 2015 at 19:19 comment added Rand al'Thor @Richard I save this kind of writing for mathematical papers; my novels have a lot more flow than that! :-p
