Jan 24, 2012 at 15:55 comment added Jane Panda This is splitting hairs, but I think in the Erised mirror case arguably the enchantment Dumbledor put on the mirror failed more than the mirror. It was set to give the stone only to someone who wanted to find it, but not use it, which is a clever Dumbledor-esque way of thinking. The mirror's reaction to Harry was based on that enchantment, not what he wanted most.
