Also, from Mel's POV: "Now he [Jon Snow] was a man, now a wolf, now a man again. " . Theories are that he wargs/stores his conscience into Ghost whilst his body gets repaired/resurrected. Why do I say this? Because GRRM says that those who are revived don't come back "new and improved" like Gandalf, rather tormented and changed (for the worse) like Lord Beric and LSH. But if Jon goes into Ghost first, then his mind is preserved. Ta-da!

some kind of wildling doctor <-- Insert Val here. Did you know, that the name Val is short for Valeria (which is a derivative of Valery) - which means "To be strong or healthy".

Aug 18, 2015 at 5:33 | comment | added | Möoz | So you're telling me there's a chance?
Aug 7, 2015 at 19:25 | comment | added | Reyssor | The Melisandre POV (ADwD 31) has a few interesting things about Jon (notably her vision: "Now he was a man, now a wolf, now a man again.", looks like a hint that he will spend some time in Ghost's body to me). PS: little mistakes in my previous comments, I meant chapters 76 and 79 of ASoS, not ACoK.
Aug 7, 2015 at 17:44 | comment | added | Shevliaskovic | @randal'thor it's mostly from the books, but some of them are from the show as well
Aug 7, 2015 at 17:39 | comment | added | Rand al'Thor♦ | Also, is everything here referring only to the books and not the TV series? That'll make it easier if I decide to split the question into two, as @MichaelEdenfield has advised me to do.
Aug 7, 2015 at 17:35 | comment | added | Rand al'Thor♦ | Some of this answer is great, but some of it is just speculation. Could you structure it a bit more clearly so as to show which book/interview quotes support which hypothesis, and maybe separate the different pieces of evidence from each other more? (I don't want to seem ungrateful - you've obviously put a lot of effort into this answer - but since people are attacking the question, I'd like to make clear that it is properly answerable and what kind of answer I'm looking for!)
Aug 7, 2015 at 17:33 | comment | added | KutuluMike | While this is a very long, thorough, well-researched answer, I don't think it actually answers the question, which is what evidence do we have one way or the other about Jon Snow, specifically, being alive or dead (which is practically nil, by the way)
Aug 7, 2015 at 14:40 | comment | added | Omegacron | @Shevliaskovic true. I lived through Star Wars novels killing off Chewie and later Anakin Solo, but I just don't know if I can take it again. I'm not strong enough.
Aug 7, 2015 at 14:34 | comment | added | Shevliaskovic | @Omegacron people shouldn't have a character they like here
Aug 7, 2015 at 14:33 | comment | added | Omegacron | Good answer. All I know for certain is that if it's permanent, I'm done.
Aug 7, 2015 at 14:09 | comment | added | Reyssor | After a short search, he first has a discussion about that eventuality with Qhorin and Ebben after a wolf dream (ACoK 53). Once he joined the Wildings, he is repeatedly called a warg, but thinks that "if so he was a poor one" (ACoK 68, ASoS 7, 26, 73). Back to Castle Black, he is even asked about it by Stannis (ACok 76), but dodges the question and some other members of the Night's Watch seem to know too (ACoK 79).
Aug 7, 2015 at 13:36 | comment | added | Shevliaskovic | Yes, any one of them (or someone else) could have a PoV chapter. Edd is at Long Barrow; another castle of the wall

Aug 7, 2015 at 13:33 | comment | added | Paul D. Waite | @Shevliaskovic: sweet — so, for example, Melisandre, or someone in the Night’s Watch at Castle Black, could have a POV chapter. Maybe Dolorous Ed! (Actually he’s not currently at Castle Black in the books eh.)
Aug 7, 2015 at 13:24 | comment | added | Shevliaskovic | @PaulD.Waite yes, of course. Before the fourth (or fifth? I don't remember) book, Samwell didn't have PoV chapter, but now he does
Aug 7, 2015 at 13:23 | comment | added | Paul D. Waite | “if he is, we won't have a POV chapter on the Wall”. I haven’t read the books, so: could a character at the Wall who hasn’t had a POV chapter before get one?

Aug 7, 2015 at 13:10 | comment | added | Reyssor | About him being a warg; I think he actually learned it when he was with the Wildings, but remained in denial since (not really sure though, I will try to find the corresponding chapter). Nice complete answer overall.
