It seems to me that Jaime is not impressed by the performance of the scorpion against the dragon but it was only one shot delivered by someone who I don't think had used the device before, done hurriedly (but admirably under extreme pressure) and the dragon was wounded.

If it were me, I would deploy many of the scorpions with teams of trained operators and the next time a dragon attacks, the might actually kill it.

On the other hand, maybe Daenerys will be better prepared next time also and be able to avoid the scorpion or use two dragons in concert? Also, perhaps something more sophisticated than essentially a huge crossbow might be developed?

Scorpions aren't exactly an innovation as show makes them out. They are standard defense weapon used from Wall to Dorne. And they have killed Dragons. Queen Rhaenys was killed when Dornishmen shot her Dragon Meraxes out of the skies with an ironbolt from a Scorpion. Oh and Prince Jacaerys and his dragon were killed by a scorpion bolt from Triarchy's navy according to one version of how the prince died – Aegon Aug 16 '17 at 8:19

But he may have a point, come to think of it. How do you train men to stand against dragons? Dornish war raged for a decade and Dornish got lucky only once while their cities and castles burnt. Even if you fill the field with Scorpion teams, Dany could use Dothraki to target them specifically unless you left a dedicated guard force for each team, making your main host weaker – Aegon Aug 16 '17 at 8:24

I don’t think Jaime or Cersei have given up on the scorpion as an anti-dragon weapon. I think they’ve decided that agreeing a truce with Daenerys at this time is the best way to survive and eventually prevail. – Paul D. Waite Aug 16 '17 at 8:28

@PaulD.Waite No, lack thereof has been implied however judging by Qyburn's comments "We are working on a solution my Lord", implying that it is an innovation and result of Qyburn's ingenuity . He could have just said we are gonna do it Dornish style, Lordie boy. – Aegon Aug 16 '17 at 8:57

@Jeff How are they savages? :D For Conquering lands? The Westerosi, especially the Southern ones, were themselves savages who conquered Southern Westeros. If Dothraki are savages, everyone else is as well. Apparently she brought her whole khalasar. And if Dany dies, they will either carve themselves a new realm and pledge fealty to the Iron Throne to be allowed to live as vassals. Or they would continue fighting till they perish or are pushed back to the sea. – Aegon Aug 16 '17 at 9:02
