When I was in high school, around 1975, I read a short short where an obese woman was left alone at home when her husband left (I think he went to hunt). When he returned home he discovered his wife eating their child. I remember the line went something like "I was so hungry". I thought the name of the story was "The Omnivore", but I haven't been able to find that title. Does anybody know the title and author of this story?

Are there any science fiction or fantasy elements to this story? Eating babies may be far outside moral and social boundaries, but is both quite possible and not unheard of in the real world. – Adamant Aug 31 '17 at 6:19

I read the story in the same collection of sci-fi stories that contained the story The Enchanted Village. I can't remember all the elements of the story and the mom devouring the child is implied, not specific. – Steph S. Sep 2 '17 at 5:24
