I'm watching DC's Legends of Tomorrow, and I'm really confused about how the Time Masters perceive time from the perspective of the Vanishing Point. I've finished the first season, so I know that the place exists "outside of time". Given that, why was Rip surprised about Vandal Savage's takeover? Moreover, why did he refer to it in the present tense?

  • The Time Masters withheld information from Rip about the Oculus Device, and so also their rational for secretly supporting Savage's conquest of Earth. That's probably why Rip was surprised about Savage. As for his use of present tense, Rip was very personally invested in the time period where his family was killed, and it probably gave a real immediacy from his point of view. – just_happen_to_know Jun 19 at 13:42
