When the dragonfire hits a solid wall, the wall explodes. But it has been commented previously that the walls can become a prison during dragon attacks. Balerion roasted King Harren and all of his sons alive in their tower, putting Harrenhal in ruin, but the walls stood. Is there an explanation for why fire in this case makes the walls explode? Is there a difference between these walls and the walls of Harrenhal?

walls explode at King’s Landing

  • Harrenhal looked pretty much a ruin when Arya is there in the TV show... and I'm sure the book describes it as being damaged by Balerion's attack and then time and neglect. – HorusKol Oct 19 '19 at 13:46
