In a brief shot on the opening of the show Lower Decks, a huge insectoid life form is seen biting down on a warp nacelle of the USS Cerritos and being carried along with it- is this alien based on anything shown on TOS or any of the spinoffs?

The incident is almost certainly inspired by the TNG Episode Galaxy's child. But it is not the same species of space creature that feeds on ship energy.

Yes, the creature makes a guest appearance on S02E07 of Strange New Worlds "Those Old Scientists" in the special animated beginning credits, suckling on The Enterprise 1701 (dash nothing). One of my favorite episodes. enter image description here

    Did that episode appear before said Liwer Decks intro scene? Otherwise, I have a hard time seeing how this answers "is this alien based on anything shown on TOS or any of the spinoffs?".
