I am looking for names of "seeing stones". Do you know other names like the Palantir? Names may come from different realms and don't need to be specifically from LOTR.

  • The Palantir is in many ways a crystal ball; I would recommend reading up on them and their use in mythology and fantasy. Would this question not count as a "list question"? – Mac Cooper Apr 17 '14 at 10:22

  • Urim and Thummim (Latter-day Saints mythology)
  • Pensieve (Harry Potter)
  • Shiral crystals (Deryni)
  • Gramerhain (Bahzell Bahnakson series)
  • Scryballs (Cerberon)
  • Kazaman (random made-up name)
  • Sancapen (another made-up name)

Hope that gives you a start.

  • +1 for "Latter-day Saints mythology" – user20155 Jul 29 '14 at 1:24
  • @user20155 An older reference to Urim and Thummim is in the Hebrew Bible, as elements of the hoshen, the breastplate worn by the High Priest. Most scholars suspect that the phrase refers to a set of two objects used by the high priest to answer a question or reveal the will of God. – Michael Richardson Jan 29 at 18:34
