A 1991 American science fiction action film, the second installment of the Terminator franchise and the sequel to The Terminator (1984). It follows Sarah Connor and her son John as they are pursued by a new, more advanced Terminator, the T-1000, sent back in time to kill John and prevent him from becoming the leader of the human Resistance against the machines. An older, less advanced Terminator is also sent back in time to protect John.

Why does the T-1000 want to keep the photo of John Connor?

It's useful for showing other people the photo and saying "Have you seen this kid?" This is exactly what happens at the Arcade where they first meet.
