Gandalf, also known as Olórin, Tharkûn, and Mithrandir, is a wise and powerful Istar (Wizard) in J.R.R. Tolkien's Middle-earth novels The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit. He was the leader of the Fellowship of the Ring and the holder of the Elven ring Narya.
