Captain Jack Harkness is a character created by Russell T Davies for doctor-who, a former Time Agent and con man who met The Doctor during World War II.
In a later appearance he died and upon being resurrected by an omnipotent being discovered he had become immortal and used his new-found abilities to fight for torchwood.
