In the Star Wars universe, the Jedi Order is a noble order of protectors unified by their ability to tap into the power of the light side of the Force. The Jedi were the guardians of peace and justice in the Galactic Republic. Headquartered on Coruscant, the Jedi trained, studied, and planned from the impressive Jedi Temple. They were governed by a High Council of 12 Jedi Masters who contemplated the very nature of the Force.
The weapon of the Jedi is the lightsaber, a weapon with a blade made of pure energy. The Jedi fought for peace and justice in the Galactic Republic, usually against their mortal enemies, the Sith and Dark Jedi, who studied the dark side of the Force. Although the Order was almost destroyed in the Great Jedi Purge of Darth Sidious, the Order lived on due in large part to the efforts of Luke Skywalker, son of the former Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker.
