Between 2005 and 2012, Anglo-American filmmaker Christopher Nolan directed a highly-regarded trilogy of films that reimagine DC Comics' Batman batman. The films are noted for their realism, gritty atmosphere, and use of cityscapes (especially those of Chicago and New York). The quality of acting has also been praised. There are notable stylistic parallels with crime dramas such as Michael Mann's Heat.
