Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens is the seventh film of the Star Wars cinematic universe. Released in December 2015, it is a sequel to Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi.

The Force Awakens picks up the story of the Star Wars universe several decades after the defeat of the Empire, and shows the current state of the galaxy, its government, and the Jedi Order.

The movie was directed by J.J. Abrams, and was the first Star Wars movie released after the acquisition of Lucasfilms by Walt Disney, Inc.
