Refers to the series of American and Japanese horror films of the same name. The plot revolves around a spirit who lives in a video taps and kills anyone who watches it

The Ring is a 2002 American horror film, a remake of the 1998 Japanese film Ring.

The American Franchise

The two currently-released films in the franchise revolve around a journalist, played by Naomi Watts, and her interactions with a videotape haunted by the spirit of a girl named Samara. Samara kills anyone who watches her tape seven days after they watch it, unless they first make a copy and give it to someone else to watch.

The second film in the franchise, The Ring Two, was released in 2005.

A prequel film, called Rings, is set to be released in November 2015.

The Japanese Franchise

Although the 2002 film was a remake of the 1998 Japanese film Ring, the two franchises have diverged since then. The Japenese franchise, which is also called Ringu, has spawned 4 sequels:

  • Rasen, released in 1998
  • Ring 2, released in 1999
  • Sadako 3D, released in 2012
  • Sadako 3D 2, released in 2013

And one prequel: - Ring 0: Birthday, released in 2000
