This tag covers discussion about all incarnations of Transformers across all media: comics, animation, movies, and novels. For questions about the 2007 film see [transformers-2007].
The Transformers toys and media have been reinvented several times over the years. This tag includes, but is not limited to, all the following series:
Generation One (G1)
This refers to the original 1984 toyline and all cartoons and comics associated with it. It continued in one form or another through 1991 and includes the 1985 animated movie.
Generation 2 (G2)
A revived line of Transformers including new figures, repaints of G1 figure molds using bold and vivid colors as well as updates including lights and sound.
Beast Wars (BW)
Introduced in 1996 with a new computer-animated television show and more articulated, animal-themed toys.
Robots in Disguise (RiD)
A one-year anime-style series released in 2001 that helped transition fans from the Beast Wars era back into vehicle Transformers.
These three television shows and toy lines are sometimes known as the "Unicron Trilogy".
The first of the "Bayformers" movies directed by Michael Bay was released in the summer of 2007.
A very stylized American cartoon which contained many subtle tributes to past Transformers eras.
A standalone computer-animated series heavily inspired by the Michael Bay movies.
