What Can someone indentify this book features, where children are bred for specific jobs?

Things I remember about this book:

Every child was selected for a certain job/careercareer;
If twins were born, one was always killedkilled;
seeingSeeing colors for the first time, (describing the color of an apple);
seeingSeeing war and death and poverty.

Any suggestionsDoes anyone have any idea what this book might be?
