Mar 14, 2015 at 19:19 comment added E. J. Sirius does have a pretty large grudge against Snape, so I've wondered if Sirius wasn't exaggerating about the amount of Dark Magic Snape knew his first year. The Restricted Section in the library would have been closed to him at that age, so he would have had to have become close friends with the proto-Death Eaters his first year. That's a pretty tall accomplishment for an 11-year-old, however interested in Dark Magic he might have been.
Apr 17, 2014 at 9:02 comment added starsplusplus @Kalissar How do we know James "excelled everywhere"? Is there something that says that?
Jul 10, 2013 at 17:07 comment added Slytherincess @Kalissar - Re: a scar from Sectumsempra ... not necessarily. If dittany is taken post-Sectumsempra, scarring may be avoided. In Half-Blood Prince in the chapter Sectumsempra, Snape says to Draco, ‘You need the hospital wing. There may be a certain amount of scarring, but if you take dittany immediately we might avoid even that ... come ...’ I can't recall any instance where James was described as having a scar on his face in canon.
Jul 10, 2013 at 14:09 comment added Kalissar If the spell was sectumsempra, would it not have left a scar ? Was James ever depicted with such a scar ?
Jul 10, 2013 at 14:04 comment added Kalissar Snape was not weak. Right. But far greater wizard than James ? Wrong. From a scholar point of view, Snape only exceled in DADA and Potions, whereas James exceled everywhere. From a person point of view, James died for Lily... Snape only "begged Voldemort to spare her" whereas he was also supposed to love her.
