Jan 29, 2013 at 17:48 comment added DVK-on-Ahch-To @MattPeterson - SW canon is pretty simple: it's a database of facts, with canon level; facts from movies have "G" level, facts from TV show "T" level, facts from all other licensed EU work "C" level, facts from works (like RPGs) which aren't mainline C-level EU, but don't contradict main canon are "S" level; facts that contradict higher level canon are "N" level. See en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Wars_canon#The_Holocron
Jan 29, 2013 at 17:11 comment added Matt Peterson +1 for a succinct answer. I'm still mystified as to why there is so much confusion about ST canon. True, the Powers that Be might not have descended from on high to bestow upon us an "official" canon, but one has been accepted by the community for so long that it might as well be a standard. I'm also not sure why because Star Trek's canon is (to me, at least) so simple it is therefore a "joke". I guess it is relative: to me (as someone who isn't deeply into Star Wars fandom), Star Wars canon is a complete mystery.
Jan 29, 2013 at 4:01 comment added Izkata To be more specific about TAS, it's generally considered canon except where it conflicts with a live-action series/movie (I haven't seen it, so I don't know how often that happens). The Original Series is even more complicated...

Jan 28, 2013 at 18:25 comment added user1027 Whoops, I meant the StarTrek.com FAQ that defined canon. It's linked as a reference by the Memory Alpha page you link.
Jan 28, 2013 at 18:21 comment added DVK-on-Ahch-To @Keen - do you mean "Memory Alpha" by "that page"? If so, I am not convinced either way - MA is a Wiki, so it in itself should NOT be considered the ultimate arbiter of canonicity, especially merely by absence.
Jan 28, 2013 at 18:12 comment added user1027 Something to note is that the archived versions of that page from late 2009 and early 2010 have no mention of STO. That was the period around the game's release, so you'd expect it to be incorporated around then into the entry if it was canon.
