Carl Sagan (1934-1996) is one of the most notable names in science. A prolific author, Sagan wrote numerous science books, narrated the show Cosmos: A Personal Voyage, and several novels, including Contact, the basis for the 1997 movie of the same name.

Sagan was intimately involved in NASA's space program, serving as an adviser since the 1950's, and has received the NASA medals for Exceptional Scientific Achievement and for Distinguished Public Service (twice).

He was a noted skeptic, enthusiastic educator, and continues to be a well-regarded representative of science.
