In the Doctor Who episode Journey to the Center of the TARDIS, The Doctor turned off the shield of TARDIS and suddenly scavengers zapped it and pulled it inside. When they dumped the TARDIS, the gate of TARDIS was still closed, but The Doctor was outside. How? As I recalled, opening the doors required efforts, too (meaning doors weren't soft shut).

Good question. And I'd also add "why wasn't clara in the console room but got lost inside the TARDIS instead?"– tilley31Commented Mar 3, 2015 at 18:12

2@tilley31 That can be TARDIS malfunction (internal matter is reprogrammable) which could only be fixed using the Wobbly Switch.. :)– Doctor DoomCommented Mar 3, 2015 at 18:15

Since the show script is no help, if I had to hazard a guess I'd say that when the TARDIS detected the exploding console, it transported the Doctor and Clara to the nearest safe point outside the blast radius. Since the Doctor had his back to the door, it moved him outside and into the pressurised hangar. Because the explosion was between Clara and the Doctor, it moved her in the opposite direction into an adjacent corridor a similar distance away from the explosion (but still inside the TARDIS).
We see an almost identical situation in "The Doctor's Wife", albeit in reverse, removing the inhabitants of a room in danger and moving them into main control room:
The four of them materialize in the console room.
DOCTOR: Yes. I mean you could do that, but it just won't work. Hardwired fail-safe. Living things from rooms that are deleted are automatically deposited in the main control room. But thanks for the lift!

1Throwing someone outside the Tardis seems incredibly stupid thing to do.– user16696Commented Mar 3, 2015 at 21:36

1I always assumed it was as simple as "he fell out the door and she fell into a hallway." The fact that the door subsequently got jammed shut doesn't mean he wasn't thrown free first. Commented Mar 3, 2015 at 22:00

1But, if TARDIS was able to hold Doctor during explosion, what was the point of kicking him outside afterwards? Commented Mar 4, 2015 at 1:31

1Also, why didn't TARDIS kick Clara outside too? Providing it was able to smartly place Doctor post explosion, it could easily do that for Clara. Commented Mar 4, 2015 at 1:32

1Also, TARDIS was malfunctioned. How could it push Doctor outside long after the zapping? Commented Mar 4, 2015 at 1:33
